What co-management means
Co-management is a shared care model where your optometrist works closely with an ophthalmology surgeon to coordinate your care. Dr. Roxanna Gangi handles the parts of your journey best done in-clinic — pre-operative measurements and assessment, education and expectation-setting, coordinated referral, and post-operative follow-up — while the surgical procedure itself is performed by the appropriate specialist.
Dr. Roxanna Gangi does not perform surgery. Our role is to make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure being considered, that you are fully prepared, and that your recovery is monitored carefully so any concerns are caught and addressed quickly.
When eye surgery may be recommended
Eye surgery is considered when other treatments are no longer enough or when surgery offers the best outcome for your situation. Common reasons include:
- Cataracts that affect daily activities, driving, or quality of life
- Glaucoma not controlled by eye drops alone
- Retinal disease requiring surgical or laser intervention
- Any prescriptions where refractive surgery may free you from glasses
- Corneal disease, scarring, or significant astigmatism
What our co-management process looks like
Your co-management journey starts with an in-depth eye exam to confirm the diagnosis, assess overall eye health, and discuss whether surgery is appropriate. If it is, Dr. Roxanna Gangi explains the procedure in plain language, what to expect on the day, and the likely recovery timeline.
Pre-operative measurements are completed in our clinic when applicable. Referral is coordinated with a trusted ophthalmology provider, and your records are shared securely. After surgery, you return to Dr. Roxanna Gangi for follow-up visits to monitor healing, manage drops, and ensure your vision is stabilizing as expected.
