Does OHIP cover eye exams in Ontario?

Seniors are generally covered for one comprehensive eye examination every 18 months, along with two partial follow-up visits if medically necessary. Patients with diabetes may qualify for one comprehensive eye examination and two partial follow-up visits annually regardless of age.

Please note that partial examinations performed by a different optometrist are often considered second opinions and may not be covered by OHIP.

OHIP coverage rules may change over time. Patients in Toronto, Aurora, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Newmarket, and across Ontario are encouraged to confirm eligibility before booking an appointment.
